Soganli is a peaceful valley that has both courtyard monasteries as well as cave churches dating back to the 10th and 11th century. This remote valley is located forty kilometers southeast from Nevsehir and about an hour drive from Goreme. Although the valley is comparable to the Ihlara Valley and Goreme Open Air Museum in terms of historical importance and natural beauty it receives far fewer tourists.
This area has over 20 churches, of which about 10 are noteworthy. There are hundreds of pigeon homes and Roman-era tombs on the valley cliffs.
Soganli Valley is a peaceful spot to enjoy ancient churches and go on peaceful hikes. While most visitors only spend two hours here, this is a worthwhile trip that can be done over a day.
This open-air, green V-shaped valley has been carved by two creeks. As birds fly above, the sound of water echos off the valley walls. Soganli Valley is a stunning destination because of its rich history and setting.
It was an ancient village site, with hundreds of stone rooms and caves above the town centre. The hillside was carved by people who then built masonry rooms in the front. Below the homes is the foundation of a church from the sixth century. Within walking distance from the village center are several churches and monasteries.
